    Responsibilities

    JOB SUMMARY:

     

     

    A professional nutritionist or vocational nurse assigned to function as a WIC Certifying Authority (CA).

     

                                                                                                            

     ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    1. Function as a WIC Certifying Authority (CA). Determine client eligibility by assessment of client medical history and risk conditions.
    2. Provide individual nutrition counseling to WIC clients based on risk conditions. Provide counseling for risk conditions as defined by WIC policy to level of authority. 
    3. Responsible for proper issuance of food benefits, including non-contract infant formula, according to State Agency guidelines. Approve and oversee the ordering special medical products/formula up to the level of authority. 
    4. Provide appropriate medical and social service referrals as defined by WIC policy.
    5. Responsible for maintaining accurate and confidential WIC charts.
    6. Responsible for performing WIC self-audits and QA assignments.
    7. Teach group nutrition education classes as assigned.
    8. Order and maintain WIC equipment and supplies, as assigned.
    9. Function as the Outreach coordinator, Training coordinator, BF coordinator or NE coordinator as assigned.
    10. Function as a staff and/or site supervisor as assigned.
    11. Advocate nutritional health and breastfeeding promotion.
    12. Provide staff training as necessary.
    13. Perform clerical and automated tasks necessary for WIC certification and food benefit delivery as needed and/or assigned.
    14. Participate in Access Health committees as assigned to provide a cohesive program of service for agency clients.
    15. Perform other duties as assigned.
      a. Comply with all company policies, procedures and regulatory requirements.
      b. Performs all other duties as assigned by management.

     

    Qualifications

    EDUCATION/LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION QUALIFICATIONS:

     

     

    REQUIRED:

     

    A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Nutrition or its equivalent OR a graduate of an accredited Licensed Vocational Nursing Program. (Education must meet state mandates for position.)

    1. Bilingual ability in Spanish. 

    PEREFERRED:

    1. Prior experience working with non-profit organizations preferred.
    2. One year work experience with supervisory responsibilities preferred.

    10. Ability to maintain confidence regarding information processed.
    11. Communication skills with ability to talk with and write to a wide variety of individuals to secure hard to get, but necessary information.
    12. High ethical standards.
    13. Well-organized and self-directed.
    14. Ability to relate to people at all levels in the organization.
    15. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.
    16. Ability to handle multiple projects.
    17. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Access.
    18. Ability to operate computer, copier and fax.
    19. Consumer advocate for quality health care services.
